In Xiangcheng, Henan, an ordinary couple — known locally as Brother Wood and Sister Wood — turned an unremarkable traditional alkaline egg business into a multi-million-yuan e-commerce operation. Not only does their own plant produce ten million eggs a year with sales near the top of the industry, they also set up an e-commerce training base, bringing peers from across the country along with them — a genuinely new path for a traditional agricultural product.
Using short-video and livestream commerce, the couple broke out of the limits of offline sales and posted striking numbers: 700,000 eggs sold in a single two-hour livestream, and thousands of steady orders a day, with the order flow never stopping.
Reputation is their core advantage. Their store offers an unusually strong after-sales promise — seven-day no-reason returns, and a full refund even if a customer finds one egg unsatisfactory after eating the rest. A risk-free experience removed customers' hesitation and built a large base of loyal buyers.
Unlike traditional sellers who keep their methods to themselves, Brother Wood and his wife chose openness and shared resources to lift the whole trade. They built a professional e-commerce training base, dropped the one-size-fits-all curriculum, and tailor a livestream plan to each student's starting point.
For beginners with no supply chain, the base provides a stable source of goods, solving the hardest problem in starting up. Teaching goes beyond practical technique: the focus is on helping traditional sellers renew fixed ways of thinking. Students have come from Shandong, Jiangsu, Luohe, Kaifeng and beyond; after training, the best have exceeded 1,000 orders in a single day.
Behind the volume is the couple's long-term judgement and willingness to innovate. They invest for the long haul — substantial spending on upgraded production equipment and professional cold storage to underpin capacity and quality — without agonising over short-term gains and losses.
On the product side they broke away from sameness early, creating a distinctive double-yolk alkaline egg category, segmenting the market precisely and taking the differentiated track. On the supply side they built their own plant to control quality at the source and guarantee stable supply and consistent taste. They also keep a long-term view of reputation, accepting losses on individual orders in order to accumulate goodwill — giving up a little to gain a great deal.
Brother and Sister Wood's story is a perfect illustration of what happens when a traditional agricultural product meets the e-commerce moment. There is no such thing as an unchanging traditional business — only fixed ways of thinking about it.
Through innovation, openness, genuine integrity and long-term planning, they took a small alkaline egg out of a small city and sold it nationwide — building their own multi-million-yuan business and, at the same time, offering countless traditional operators a replicable path to growth.
